Aprendizaje de segundas lenguas está dirigido a profesionales de la docencia de idiomas, a alumnos universitarios interesados en la enseñanza de lenguas y a formadores de profesores, y tiene como objetivo proporcionar los fundamentos básicos para manejarse en este campo. La obra está organizada en torno a cuatro bloques temáticos. El primero es una presentación inicial de la lingüística aplicada como disciplina y del ámbito de la enseñanza y aprendizaje de segundas lenguas. El segundo recoge los principios teóricos sobre la adquisición de segundas lenguas, la metodología en la enseñanza de idiomas y el concepto de competencia comunicativa. El tercer bloque entra de lleno en consideraciones didácticas: desarrollo de contenidos y destrezas lingüísticas, recursos básicos (materiales, tipos de textos...) y fundamentos pedagógicos, en aspectos tales como la programación, la evaluación y la autonomía del aprendizaje. Finalmente, el cuarto y último bloque afronta la situación de presente y futuro en la enseñanza de segundas lenguas, a través de la especialización de los estudios (enseñanza con fines específicos y para inmigrantes), la formación de profesores y el uso de nuevas tecnologías. Susana Pastor Cesteros, Doctora en Filología Hispánica, es profesora titular de Lingüística General en la Universidad de Alicante y cuenta con una dilatada trayectoria docente e investigadora en la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera y en el aprendizaje de segundas lenguas.
